Recently a client asked me what is blogging. So if you have been asking yourself the same question today, I’m going to give you an answer. I remember back in 2006, being at a seminar where the speaker kept mentioning blogging. I also remember not having any idea what a blog was. It’s been a long time since I was at that seminar, and I have learned a lot. So what is blogging?

Blogging is Your Online Presence
Blogging is a great way to share your thoughts and ideas with the world. It’s also a great way to connect with other bloggers and build a community of followers who are interested in what you have to say. But what really is blogging?
At its root, blogging is simply a way to communicate your thoughts and ideas online. You can think of it as an online journal or diary where you share your thoughts and experiences. But unlike a personal journal, a blog can also be a powerful tool for businesses.
Blogging vs. Traditional Websites
Although a blog has many of the same characteristics as a traditional website, it’s actually very different. A blog is simply a website or a section of a website where you post articles, thoughts, experiences, or news updates on a regular basis.
A blog is updated regularly with new content, while a traditional website is typically static. Then because blogs also allow for comments and interaction from readers, they become much more like an ongoing conversation, while a traditional website is more like a one-way broadcast.
This is what makes the blog a great platform for building relationships with customers and followers. It also allows you to get feedback and ideas from your readers, which can help you improve your business as well as improve your search engine optimization, which we’ll talk about later.
Easier than traditional websites
Although traditional websites have their place, the downside of traditional websites is that they can be expensive to create and maintain, and they often require a fair amount of web design and programming knowledge to get them up and running.
A blog, on the other hand, is much easier to create and maintain since more focus is placed on the conversation and less on the design. In addition, blogging is a very cost effective way to reach and connect with your target audience.
Why Your Business Needs a Blog?
For a business, a blog can be a great way to connect with customers and share news, updates, and insights about itself. It’s also a great way to show off new products and expertise in its field, which can build trust and help attract new customers along with building loyalty among its current ones.
However, blogging helps with more than that. When done right, Google will rank your site higher on the results page when someone searches for what you offer. This is because Google loves new content, and what is newer than a regularly updated blog post?
Helps Your Business Build Brand Awareness
In addition to its business applications, blogging can also be a powerful branding tool. By sharing your thoughts and experiences online, you can help showcase your expertise and knowledge in your field, which can help you attract new clients and opportunities. Customers and potential customers will see the way that you do business and the products that your business uses. By constantly blogging, you become a thought leader in your industry.
SEO stands for search engine optimization, which simply means optimizing your website or blog in the way Google thinks users prefer to see it. A highly optimized site will rank higher on the search engine results pages (SERP) and one of the best ways to do this is by adding new, keyword rich content on a regular basis, which is exactly what blogging allows you to do.
Optimized SEO lets Google know what your business is about so that they can show you to the right people.
Definition of a Blogger
A blogger is somebody who writes blog posts for their own blog or for other people’s blogs.
But, if you’re a business owner, chances are you don’t have the time to blog regularly. That’s where hiring a professional blogger can come in handy. A professional blogger can help you create and maintain a blog that represents your brand and helps you achieve your business goals.
Not sure what to look for in a professional blogger? Here are a few qualities of a good blogger:
– A passion for writing and sharing thoughts and ideas
– Excellent communication skills
– The ability to engage and interact with readers
– Knowledgeable about SEO and how to optimize blog posts for the search engines
– A strong understanding of your target audience and what they’re looking for
– The ability to generate new and fresh ideas regularly
– Organized and able to meet deadlines
The important thing to understand is that a well crafted blog takes time, as there are many steps to writing, crafting, and promoting a blog. So if you’re looking to hire a professional blogger, be sure to check out their blog and see if they’re a good fit for your business.
How to Start Your Blog
Before you can start blogging, you’ll need to set up a blog of your own. So here are the steps you need to take:
1. Choose a blogging platform – The first thing you will need is a platform. A blogging platform is the software you will use to build your blog. Although you can use several different platforms, the most popular and the one I recommend is WordPress. It’s relatively inexpensive or even free, depending on which version of WordPress you use.
2. Register a domain name – The next step is to register a domain name for your blog. Your domain name is the web address that readers will type into their browsers when they want to visit your blog. You can purchase a domain name for around $15 per year.
3. Set up hosting – Once you have registered your domain name, you’ll need to set up hosting for your blog. Hosting is the place where your blog will live on the internet. Hosting costs around $15-20 per month.
4. Install WordPress – Once you have set up hosting for your blog, you need to install WordPress or whichever software you choose on your server, which is your hosting. Installation is an easy process that only takes a few minutes and is usually done by following prompts set up by your hosting company.
5. Write your first post – Once you have everything set up, you’re ready to write your first entry, also known as a post! Be sure to make your posts interesting and engaging and something that people will want to come and read.
Hiring a Professional
Although setting up your blog is not that difficult, it can seem overwhelming if you’ve never done it before. That’s why I recommend hiring a professional to help you get started. A professional can take care of all the technical details and help you get your blog up and running quickly and easily.
Then once your blog is set up, learning how to log in and blog is quite simple. All it takes is a little practice to blog like a pro in no time!
Blog Post Content
When it comes to writing a post, having a well-organized structure is key. Well-organized structure will help make your posts easier to read and help keep your readers engaged. Here are the main elements of organized structure for a typical post:
1. The headline – The headline is what grabs your reader’s attention and encourages them to continue reading. Make sure it’s catchy and exciting.
2. The introduction – The introduction should introduce your topic and what the rest of the post will be about.
3. The body – This is where you provide more detail on the topic you introduced in the introduction. Be sure to include many facts, statistics, and expert quotes to support your claims.
4. The conclusion – Here is where you wrap up what you’ve said in the body of the post and leave your reader with something to think about.
5. The call to action – A call to action tells your reader what you want them to do next, such as visit your website, sign up for your newsletter, or buy your product or service.
As I mentioned before, the difference between a blog and a static website is that a blog is like a two-way conversation. Because a blog allows for comments, your readers can leave feedback, ask questions or engage in discussion with you about the topic of your post.
Allowing comments on your blog’s posts can greatly encourage reader interaction and build relationships. Comments also turn your readers into loyal customers and fans.
Although you can turn comments off, I highly recommend using them since they are so important in building and growing a business. If you’re not sure whether or not to allow comments on your blog, I would say just do it!
To encourage comments, be sure to ask questions in your blog posts and end with a call to action that invites people to leave their thoughts in the comments section.
How To Blog
Choose your target audience.
When it comes to blogging, one of the most important things to consider is your target audience. Who are you writing for? What are their interests? What do you want them to do after reading your blog posts?
Once you know who your target audience is, you can start tailoring your content specifically for them. The right content ensures that your blog is interesting and relevant and that readers will keep coming back for more.
One way to determine your target audience is to think about who your current customers are. What kind of people are they? What do they like? What are their interests? You can also do market research to find out what interests the people in your target market.
Brainstorming for content
When it comes to blogging, one of the most important things to consider is what you’re going to write about. Without good content, your posts will be boring, and no one will want to read them. So how do you come up with ideas for interesting blog posts?
One way is to brainstorm for content. Brainstorming simply means sitting down and coming up with ideas for blog posts. You can do this by yourself or with a group of people. Either way, it’s a great way to come up with lots of ideas quickly.
Remember, the key is to provide valuable content that is relevant, interesting, and helpful to your target audience. If you can do that, they’ll keep coming back for more!
Here are a few tips about brainstorming for content:
Online Forums -Check out online forums related to your niche and see what questions people are asking. Look for the problems that people are having and then solve those problems.
Brainstorm Keywords – Brainstorm keywords that are associated with your niche. Brainstorming will help you develop ideas that interest your readers.
Social Media – Seeing what people are talking about on social media is another excellent way to see what’s trending and what people are talking about at the moment.
Google Alerts – Set up Google Alerts for keywords related to your niche and see what is going on.
Writing the Post
Once you have come up with an idea, it’s now time to start putting your expertise to work and showing your readers exactly why they should use your business to solve their problems. So here are the next steps in creating that all important blog post.
1. Come up with a title – Once you have an idea, come up with a catchy and exciting title.
2. Develop an outline – The next step is to develop an outline of the main points that you would like to talk about.
3. Write a draft – Once you have a title and an outline, begin writing your first draft. Don’t worry about making it perfect, just get the main points down, so you have something to work with.
4. Edit and polish – Once you have a draft for your post, go back and edit and polish it until it’s ready to be published.
4. Publish – Finally, publish your post!
And Don’t Forget the Comments
Just because you have finished writing doesn’t mean that you are done. Because a blog is a two-way conversation, it’s important that you encourage comments and engage with your audience. As I said before, comments will help build your relationships and make your blog more successful.
Make sure to watch for comments and then reply as soon as possible. A successful blog will become a conversation, so make sure that you are an active and engaged participant.
So to answer the original question, “what is blogging?” Blogging is simply a way of sharing your thoughts, ideas, and experiences with the world via the internet, followed by a conversation with the blog’s readers about those ideas.
For a business, this means connecting with potential and current customers, sharing news and updates, as well as promoting your products or services. While it does take some time and effort to get a blog up and running, the rewards can be well worth it for many businesses.
